China Completes Hat-trick; Sweet Revenge for Lee/Yoo, Ahmad/Natsir
The recently-paired Lee Yong Dae and Yoo Yeon Seong avenged their loss at the French Open quarterfinals to take the championship off Malaysia’s Hoon Thien How/Tan Wee Kiong at the VICTOR China Open. This was Lee’s sixth China Open title and counted as his 29th career Superseries win.

The Malaysians were the only team to have beaten the new Korean aces in their four-event partnership, cruising by a surprisingly comfortable scoreline of 21-13 21-10 in the quarterfinals in Paris just a fortnight ago. But this time it was the complete other way around as Lee and Yoo denied the first-time finalist with a victory of equal dominance of 21-13 21-12 in 34 minutes.

Lee and Yoo are now a perfect 2-2 in the majors. The Denmark Open was the first event they entered as a team and saw them lifting the Superseries Premier championship as well. The other tournament they played in was last week’s Jeonju VICTOR Korea Grand Prix Gold when they were forced to retire in the quarterfinals.

The mixed doubles finals witnessed another sweet revenge for world champions Tontowi Ahmad and Liliyana Natsir as they stole the spotlight to win their fifth Superseries titles of the year against Denmark’s Joachim Fischer Nielsen and Christinna Pedersen in a match of fluctuating fortunes, 21-10 5-21 21-17. The latter broke the hearts of the Indonesians after winning last year’s bronze medal match of the Olympics to leave them empty-handed.

The hosts had had three titles in hands as the finals in men’s singles, women’s single and women’s doubles were all starred by Chinese players, with defending champions Chen Long, Li Xuerui, and Yu Yang/Wang Xiaoli emerged triumphant in respective events.
