For the first appearance at World Tour final stage, Gloria Emanuelle Widjaja made her most with Hafiz Faizal and brought back the mixed doubles trophy of Thailand Open. They will enter Top 10 for the first time as well.

Prior to this week, the Indonesia duo had been in semifinals of Malaysia Masters and Indonesia Open, not to mention knocking out World No.1 and their senior Tontowi Ahmad/Liliyana Natsir in All Egland Open.

It’s their first title after nine months of partnership, and also the biggest glory in respective career. They walked away with five straight wins, including fending the first seed Chris Adcock/Gabrielle Adcock 21-12, 21-12 in the last match.

Once to be the world junior champion, Widjaja has grown as the successor of Indonesian mixed doubles. With height and agility, the 24-year-old lady is ready to make more impacts!

There were also some surprises from the Malaysians in the quarterfinals. Women’s single shuttler Soniia Cheah created her best record at Super 500 tournament before being defeated by World No.3 P.V. Sindhu.

Men’s doubles Aaron Chia/Soh Wooi Yik showed potential by taking the first win over a Top 10 pair (Lee Jhe-huei/Lee Yang) in their second World Tour. The loss to local representative Isara/Jongjit won’t stop their determination to pursue better results.
